Fall of 2014 we were invited by some awesome friends to join them on a day trip to Calaveras Big Trees State Park. Our time in Manteca, CA was coming to an end and they didn’t want us to miss the opportunity to see the giant sequoias and we didn’t want to miss the opportunity either.
We took a picnic lunch and found a great spot to fuel up before heading out to hike through the park.
The trail was very walking friendly with lots of benches to stop and sit a while.
The trees were unbelievably impressive (can you see Micaiah in the bottom left corner?) and the forest felt magical as we walked through.
Our kids said they felt like they were on a planet from Star Wars. It really did feel other worldly.
We climbed on trees…
…and through trees…
It was an awe inspiring day. Not only the size, but also the age. Some of these trees are ancient and it felt like we were touching the past as we walked through them. Such a neat experience.
Have you ever been to Big Trees State Park? Have you ever been anywhere around trees this big and old? It’s amazing, right?
