Life,Sight Seeing

Our Corpus Christi Christmas

This year, RC and I decided to take the kids to the beach for Christmas. We couldn’t make it to Oklahoma to see family because of our jobs, and on a whim we found a really great hotel deal and decided to just go for it. We made the kids leave their computers and video games behind, and we brought some board games, and our blu-ray and movies. We ended up taking the truck because the check engine light came on in the Yukon and we didn’t want to risk anything. Micaiah rode between me and RC, so we had fun taking some selfies.

We left Friday afternoon and took the back roads down to Corpus. The drive was great and we arrived with plenty of time to check in and then find someplace for dinner. We ate at Doc’s Seafood and Steaks and it was amazing! It is right on the water and they had all the walls open so even though we weren’t on the deck we could hear and smell the ocean (it was already dark out so there wasn’t much to see). I had bacon wrapped stuffed shrimp with potatoes and asparagus and it was so freakin good!

Seriously, I can’t remember the last time I actually ate all my food at a restaurant (the portions are just so big), but I sure did this time. Granted, I gave three shrimp away to the boys, but still. I had a happy plate.

We spent the first part of Saturday walking around Corpus Christi Bay. Isaac and I both had our cameras and we snapped away as we enjoyed the exercise and views.

Caiah sang and enjoyed being alone with her thoughts (and having my camera in her face)

And Caleb dreamed up more story lines for his fan fiction.

We then went to the mall for lunch and window shopping while we waited for our Rogue One movie time. We couldn’t pass up a chance for some Dippin Dots either. You guys know my love of ice cream and dippin dots is no different. When RC and I were first married there was one really close to where he worked and so we enjoyed them regularly. Since then we haven’t found places that sell dippin dots as easily so we partake whenever we can. I got strawberry and Caiah got Moose Tracks. I can’t remember what the boys got.

After the movie, we returned to the hotel and ate turkey sandwiches and chips that we had brought from home. We watched Doctor Who Christmas specials while playing cards. It was a nice relaxed evening.

Christmas morning we awoke to presents and then ate breakfast at the hotel again. We left for Mustang Island Beach later that morning, and took more turkey and chips to eat while we were out. It was a gorgeous day and we all really enjoyed hanging at the beach all afternoon.

Later in the afternoon, we returned to the movie theater once again. This time to see Sing and then had dinner at On the Border. I’m so grateful to the people who went into work on Christmas day so that we could have a nice meal. We watched more Doctor Who and played more games the rest of the evening.

We packed up to leave Monday morning and hit the outlet mall in San Marcos on our way home. I found some new tops for work and we had dippin dots one more time. =)

We arrived home late Monday afternoon tired, but happy. It was a great trip and we all really enjoyed the time together. It was a wonderful way to cap off 2016!
