That Time I Changed All My Curtains and Loved It.

I say that as though this is the only time I’ve ever changed all my curtains and loved it. Ha! Seriously, though, curtains are some of my favorite decor. I absolutely love the impact they have on a space as well as the fact that I prefer my windows dressed. And dressed well.

Last month, RC took the kids to Oklahoma to spend some time with their grandparents and while he was there I asked him to make a stop by our storage unit and bring my fabric to me. I wasn’t sure exactly what I had kept, by I had an idea that I wanted to try out.

The idea I had was a total bust, but what I ended up with was so much better. When we first got this home I wanted things to be mostly neutral with pops of color. However, the orange of the fake wood threw everything off and I ended up adding more and more color to compensate for it. I finally ended up painting almost all of the fake wood, but instead of going back to my original vision, I just kept what I had.

The first is texture or pattern and the second is contrast. I couldn’t do an all white space or an all black one for that matter. I need contrast.

I also tried some plain white fabric that I had for curtains and it was just too stark for me. I needed something with pattern, and the stripes and swirls that I have now are perfect.

The kids came home and immediately noticed the changes. Their biggest remark was on how light it looked and felt. Now, I’m sure that many of you will prefer the more colorful curtains/space, and I get it. It does PHOTOGRAPH better. But the feel of the space in real life is so calm and gentle now. It’s not something that a camera can capture, but trust me, it’s so good.

Who knows how the space will look this fall, but for right now, I’m loving it.
